Virgil Ross Jones, age 85, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away on March 4, 2026. He was born on October 14, 1940, in Linden, Texas to Virgil and Frances Jones.

After attending Texas High School, he spent 21 years in the United State Air Force as a B52 Gunner, even serving time in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he attended East Texas State University earning his bachelor's degree. Later he went to work for Lockheed Martin as a Quality Engineer.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church – Moores Lane. Once he retired, he enjoyed spending his free time with his family, being outdoors: hunting, fishing and traveling, he was known as a jokester, always telling stories and writing poems for everyone. He may have been known as the Donut connoisseur of East Texas. Ross enjoyed music. He also loved the Great State of Texas and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. His family would describe him as a gentle man with a kind and mellow spirit who was witty but sweet with a funny side.

Ross is preceded in death by both of his parents and his mother and father-in-law; Ivan and Sophia Bond; and one grandson, Joshua Jones.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Bond Jones of Texarkana, Texas; his four children, Robin and wife Patty Jones of Hopkinton, New Hampshire, Gary and wife Trisha Jones of Mims, Florida, Daniel and wife Lori Jones of Texarkana, Texas, and Shannon and husband Mark Leathlean of Titusville, Florida; ten grandchildren Mason Jones, Zac Carmichael, Ivan Jones, Logan Jones, Tyler Jones, Riley Jones, Kaylee Jones, Allison Jones, Ryder and wife Brooke Leathlean, and Linkin Leathlean; 2 great-grandchildren, Oaklee McDowell and Harper Leathlean; three siblings, Bill and wife Lek Jones of Pattaya, Thailand, Rex and wife Mary Jones of Gilbert, Arizona and Susie Defore of Texarkana, Texas; and a host of other family and friends.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 13, 2026. at the Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Chapelwood Funeral Home in Nash, Texas.
