Mary Frances Chittenden, age 101, of Hooks, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving children. She was born on June 18, 1923, in Warren, Kentucky.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to so many. Her love for her family was infinite. She surrounded herself with pictures of her family throughout her house. She always said if she couldn't be with her family, she could look at all of her pictures and be with them in her memories. She loved taking care of others whether it was cooking or sending care packages. It gave her purpose when she could help others.

Although Mary loved her family, her greatest love was for Jesus Christ. She was a devout Christian and prayer warrior. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Texarkana. She drove herself to church every week even after she turned 100 to worship and fellowship. She loved reading the bible daily and was a long-term member of BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).

Mary was an extraordinary lady full of determination, strength, love, and a dash of stubbornness, who never left the house without her jewelry and a little lipstick. She will be missed by all of those who were lucky enough to know her.

She is preceded in death by her husband Elliott Edward Chittenden; her mother Lila Donaho Edwards; and her brother James Gillahan.

She is survived by her children Ronald Chittenden and wife Jeanette of Texarkana; Janice McCoy and husband Mark of Snook; grandchildren, Teresa Holmes Van Hyfte and husband John of Bryan; Ronald Chittenden, Jr. and wife Erica of Longview; Susanne Kemp of Greenville; Delena Scott and husband Richard of Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Georgia, Jackson Van Hyfte; Gabriel Cotten; Alexandria and Caleb Chittenden; Kobie Hodgdon and Kaylee Trentham.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Chapelwood Funeral Home in Nash, Texas with Brother Wes Byas officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.
