Obituary

Jewell Wayne Hickerson, age 86, of Texarkana, Arkansas, passed away at home on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Jewell was born on February 18, 1940, in the Index Community of Texarkana, Texas, to Jack and Bessie Hickerson. He grew up in a close-knit community where his story, memories, and family roots became an important part of his legacy.

Jewell was employed at an early age at Brown and Root Construction Company. He was a master carpenter by trade, working at numerous new construction sites in and around the Four States area. Later, he returned to Texarkana, where he continued his career working for several local construction companies. Jewell was a faithful member of the House of Prayer Church, a church founded by his father and father-in-law. The church held a special place in his family’s legacy. He was a believer and was prepared to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He never met a stranger, and he loved sharing stories of his many adventures and exploits throughout his lifetime. His outgoing personality, gift of storytelling, and ability to make others feel welcome left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He also had a love of watching NASCAR and collecting coins.

Jewell was preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years, Shelby Broxan Hickerson; his parents, Jack Raymond Hickerson and Bessie Louise Schaffer Hickerson; his sister, LaQuinta Raye Howard; his daughter-in-law, Melanie Collette Hickerson; and his great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Grace Hickerson. He was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mary Ruth Pritchett.

He is survived by his two sons, Wayne Hickerson, of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Raymond Hickerson, of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Carol Goode of Fairborn, Ohio; six grandchildren, Rodney Goode and his wife Samantha, Brady Goode and his wife Jordan, Brent Hickerson and his wife, Mary, Megan Anthony and her husband, Pete, Amber Burdette and her husband, Brad, and Natalie Krager and her husband, Ethan; eleven great-grandchildren and their spouses; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A. M. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas Chapel, with Rev. Dennis Heath and Rev. Wallace Edgar. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M.
