Jessie Marie Laird Sams, age 88, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Hospice of Texarkana. She was born on August 14, 1936, to George and Bertha Laird, in San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. Sams spent her working days as a Vice President of Accounting at Red River Credit Union. She was a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. She volunteered at the Salvation Army.

In her free time, she enjoyed reading, traveling, cards, and Scrabble. Her family described her as a real sharp card one word away from a family Scrabble championship. She was also quiet and sweet, natural and honest even when no one was looking. She was a wonderful and loving, wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Bertha  Laird; brothers Eugene Laird and George Laird.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Billy G. Sams of Texarkana, Texas; Son Dave Sams and wife Wendy of Florida; one granddaughter Samantha Sams of Colorado; great-granddaughters Anna and Mary Grace; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Chapelwood Funeral Home.

Interment will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service from 1:00- 2:00 P.M.
