Derrell Lee Gilbert, 91, passed away surrounded by her family on June 13, 2026. She was born December 9, 1934 to Henry Derrell and Ruby Lee Hart in Texarkana, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald Richard Gilbert, one daughter Eva Kathlene, and a brother John Brinton Hart.

Derrell Lee was a lifelong member of Chapelwood Methodist Church and dedicated many years of service to GTE. More than any title or accomplishment, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend whose presence brought joy wherever she went.

Known affectionately as "Mamaw" or "Memaw" to her grandchildren, she treasured every moment spent with her family. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend a grandchild's sporting event, always cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm.

She had a gift for finding happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved shopping and "sliding hangers" in search of the perfect bargain. She enjoyed putting together puzzles, spending time with her beloved cats, and making memories by the ocean especially during her cherished trips to Galveston.

Always ready for an adventure, she never turned down a road trip. Whether it was heading to a game, going shopping, or simply finding a good place to eat, she was often the first one in the car and ready to go. She especially loved Mexican food and enjoyed many meals at Lee's China with family and friends.

A lover of the arts, she held season tickets to the Perot and delighted in sitting front row for every performance she attended. She embraced life with enthusiasm and made the most of every opportunity to enjoy it.

One of the memories her family will treasure most is the way she always stood outside to wave goodbye. No matter how far down the road you had gone, you could count on looking back and seeing Mamaw still standing there, waving. It was a simple gesture that perfectly reflected her loving heart—a reminder that you were always cared for, always welcomed, and always loved.

Her warmth, generosity, sense of adventure, and unwavering love for her family will leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew her.

Survivors include her son Keith Gilbert of Douglassville,; Daughter Carrie Pickering of Atlanta, Texas; Grandchildren Mandy Pickering, Emily McCasland and husband Eric, Jessica Wylie and husband Jay, Heath Gilbert and wife Lauren, Dustin Pickering; great grandchildren Bryan Kemp, Taylor Spanhanks, Jaycee Kelloway, Ruby McCasland, Lucas McCasland, Janson Wylie, Judd Wylie, Brint Gilbert, Jolie Wylie, Bryce Gilbert, Cort Gilbert, Keeli Pickering, Camp Gilbert, Stetson Pickering; and one great great-granddaughter Kyndal Kemp.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Chapelwood Funeral Home-Chapel, Nash, Texas, with visitation starting at 1:00 PM.
