Candace Susan Mizell, a lifelong resident of Texarkana, was born on August 16, 1946, and passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

Candace grew up on the Edge O'Texas Ranch where she spent countless hours riding her beloved horse, Buttons, with her loyal Weimaraner, Stormy, always by her side. She attended Texas High School before transferring to St. Mary's Academy in Austin, Texas, where she graduated in May of 1964.

Pursuing her passion for the arts, Candace earned her Bachelor of Science degree in fine art from Texas Woman's University and later her Master of Science degree from Texas A & M University at Texarkana. As a talented artist, she specialized in oil painting and received numerous awards in juried art shows, including the Four States Fair and the State Fair of Texas, where she was honored with a Best of Show award.

Throughout her life, horses and dogs held a special place in Candace's heart. She was a devoted Chinook owner and a proud advocate for the breed, serving as a member of the Chinook Club of America. Candace's Chinooks earned many titles in Obedience and Rally. She was a charter member of the Kennel Club of Texarkana where she volunteered in their annual AKC sanctioned dog show.

Candace loved her quarter horses, and she enjoyed showing them in halter and reining events at AQHA quarter horse shows. She was a charter member of the Texarkana Quadrille and Roundup Club.Candace was preceded in death by her parents, Joy and Ben Mizell. She is lovingly remembered by her four sisters: Cherie Mizell Holmquist, Michael Mizell Mankins (husband, Pete), Niki Joy Mizell, and Sammi Mizell Bonney (husband, Chris.) As a doting aunt, she will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Candace's life will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at 1 pm at Texarkana Funeral Home (Texas Blvd). Visitation is at 12.
