Is embalming required? Embalming is not required by law in Texas or Arkansas except in certain cases. However embalming is necessary for a service or visitation with viewing. You funeral director will take time to discuss the details of the funeral service such as special music, viewing, pallbearers, the time and place of the service, and several other details to ensure that you and your loved ones wishes attended to. You will be guided through selection of necessary merchandise such as, casket, vault, and flowers. Your funeral director will discuss the financial arrangements and help you with any paperwork that comes along with your insurance policy. Is a vault required? A vault is not required by law, however certain perpetual care cemeteries do require vault for burial. Even though they are not required by law most families choose to use a burial vault to protect the casket and prevent maintenance problems with the grave space. How do I get the Death certificates and how long does it take to get them? When the arrangement conference takes place, a funeral director will gather all the information for the death certificates and take care of all the details of sending the death certificate to the doctor or coroner and then to the state. This process takes about two weeks. Once the certified copies are completed they are returned to the funeral home. We will give you a call when they are ready. Yes, cremation is simply a means of final disposition it has not effect of the type of service you choose. In fact many families choose to have a traditional funeral with viewing and visitation prior to cremation. Other families may arrange for a memorial service that takes place after the cremation.
