The history of Texarkana Funeral Home dates back to the days when downtown Texarkana was the thriving heart of the city. The brick paved streets were crowded with men and women going about their daily routines. Then famous downtown post office was only four years old, and what we now know as the Perot Theater was referred to as the Saenger Theater. The year was 1937 and Howard Fuqua along with Harry L. Everett established Texarkana Funeral Home on 6 th and Main Streets right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Downtown Texarkana.

Texarkana Funeral Home operated out of the old downtown building for several successful years. The staff worked hard to establish a reputation built on trust with the people of Texarkana and as a result more and more families began to choose Texarkana Funeral Home to guide them through their time of need. It wasn't long before the Funeral Home began to outgrow it's downtown location.

The Funeral Home needed more room to grow and the town in general was growing towards the north so it only made sense that in December of 1966 Texarkana Funeral Home opened a new facility at 3515 Texas Boulevard. It was that same year that Thomas H. Fuqua Jr., who still serves as president and CEO, became affiliated with the funeral home.

With the help of Robert D. Cowley Jr., who joined the funeral home in 1959, the Fuqua's and Mr. Everett continued to provide area families with sound advice and caring service at times of personal loss. As a result they built a reputation with the Texarkana area as a funeral home that people can trust to serve their family. Soon Texarkana Funeral Home became the largest funeral home in the area.

Years past by and Texarkana Funeral Home continued to operate out of its Texas Boulevard facility. Howard Fuqua passed away in 1977 followed by Harry Everett in 1991. When Harry Everett passed away, Robert D. Cowley stepped up and became Funeral Director in Charge.

In 1995 Texarkana Funeral Home became affiliated with Bates-Rolf Funeral Homes in New Boston and DeKalb. Over the years the area has grown and in 2000 it was once again time for Texarkana Funeral Home to expand. This was accomplished by building a fourth facility at 927 S. Kings Hwy called Chapelwood Funeral Home. This beautiful modern facility has allowed the funeral home to better serve people who live in or near the Nash and Wake Village areas.

In efforts to prepare for the future, plans are currently being made to build two more locations, one on loop 245 in Texarkana, Arkansas and another on Moores lane. As the years go by and Texarkana Funeral Home continues to grow, one thing will remain the same, The Funeral Home is dedicated to remaining locally and privately owned and operated.

Texarkana Funeral Home employees host numerous memorial services throughout the year, including the Annual Christmas Memorial Service, a Christmas service in honor of the families that Texarkana Funeral Home has served during the past year. Each family is presented with an ornament that they can place on their Christmas tree in remembrance of their loved one. The funeral directors also host an appreciation banquet for area ministers, and a fish fry to recognize the efforts of local law enforcement and emergency service personnel.

The Funeral Homes also share an affiliation with Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mausoleum, which is the oldest and most prominent perpetual care cemetery in the Four States Area. Each year Dale Buster, assistant manager of Texarkana and Chapelwood Funeral Homes, organizes a Veterans Memorial Service to commemorate the veterans who have served our country. A guest speaker is invited each year, and hundreds of American Flags line the cemetery.

Texarkana Funeral Home has seen many changes in itself and the community throughout the years.
